Families, please take a moment to review these important E-Bike & E-Moto Safety Guides from Sonoma County Safe Routes to School.
With more students using electric bikes, scooters, and e-motos, it’s important for families to understand which devices are legal for youth, helmet and age requirements, rules of the road, and the safety and liability concerns associated with modified or off-road e-motos.
⚠️ Please note: Some devices marketed as “e-bikes” may actually be classified as e-motorcycles and are not permitted on public roads, sidewalks, or bike trails.

Sonoma County Safe Routes to School E-Bicycle and E-Moto Safety Guide. Explains safety and liability concerns, e-bike classifications, helmet and age requirements, and rules of the road. Notes that modified e-bikes may be considered off-road e-motorcycles. Electric scooters, electric dirt bikes, and electric motorcycles have additional restrictions for students under 16.
