Mid-Year Check in From The Superintendent
Hello WUSD Community:
It’s hard to believe but we are more than halfway through our 2025-26 school year. It feels like time is flying by, and I wanted to check in with everyone as our year progresses.
First, we’d like to thank everyone for being a part of our fall and winter holiday celebrations at the end of the year. We know the shows, assemblies, Halloween parades and sing-alongs are a treasured part of the year, and we are so happy to have had you be a part of them. The end of the school year will also be full of events, so stay tuned to your school’s ParentSquare to learn more.
Second, I’d like to personally extend my thanks to all the community members who have come out for our Sippin’ With The Superintendent events. It has been wonderful to get to know our community members, answer questions, and learn about what is and isn’t working for our families. These events are casual, open conversations where you can ask questions to bring me concerns and I can share with you information about what goes on at the District-level. We will have a few more of these events this school year so please stay tuned…I hope to see you!
Next, I’d like to shout out our maintenance staff for keeping everything dry, working, and running smoothly during our stormy days. Many of our buildings, especially our portable classrooms, are not the youngest, but despite that, our staff works hard to keep them in the best shape possible…even when the rain and wind hits hard.
I’d also like to thank our two unions — WDEA and CSEA — for working diligently with us to settle their contracts. We are fortunate in Windsor to have strong relationships with our staff representatives, and were able to secure a deal that is both fiscally responsible and sustainable. Thank you to everyone who worked hard for this outcome.
As we head into spring, and start thinking about our next school year, we are facing some changes at the top of some of our school sites. At Mattie Washburn, we are excited to announce Shjon Gilbertson as our new principal for the 2026-27 school year. Shjon is a long-time member of our District and we are excited for him to take the reins at Mattie. We know once you meet him, you will see why he was our pick to lead Mattie. We also want to thank Ed Navarro for stepping in to lead the school through the end of this year, so I could return to being a full-time Superintendent. (Though truth be told, I miss my lunchtime basketball games with the kiddos at Mattie).
We will be saying goodbye to our amazing Windsor Middle School Principal Angela West at the end of this year as she has decided to retire, but we are thrilled to welcome Jillian Beall into the role. In addition, one of our high school assistant principals, Joe Stadum, has decided to return to the classroom, and Sean Kerr will be stepping in at Windsor High School. We are also pleased to announce that Patricia Chadwick will be staying in her current placement as Assistant Principal at Cali.
All in all it continues to be a good year here in Windsor, and I am excited for the continued growth and good work from our students and staff. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to me via email, at jdecker@wusd.org.
Thanks and best regards,
Jeremy Decker
Superintendent
