Bomb Threat at Windsor High School

On March 6, 2026, at 11:51 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a call from a male claiming to be in the Windsor High School parking lot in a black car. The caller demanded $10,000 in cash and said several bombs would go off at the school if the demand was not met.

The Windsor High School Resource Officer (SRO) was on campus and quickly contacted school administrators, who then directed students to shelter in place while additional deputies responded to investigate the threat.

The school was then placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff while deputies searched the campus and surrounding neighborhood and awaited additional law enforcement resources. Several agencies responded to assist, including the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Sonoma County Fire District, Cal Fire, and the Department of Emergency Management.

Deputies searched the school on foot, by drone, and with the assistance of CHP explosive detection dogs. The dogs also searched several vehicles matching the description provided by the caller; however, nothing suspicious was found. During the search, a student ran across campus and was briefly detained. Deputies later determined the student ran because they were afraid and were not involved in any incident leading to the lockdown.

After an extensive search, the campus was deemed safe and the school day ended early. Because the threat occurred during lunchtime, many students ran off campus as part of the “Run, Hide, Fight” response they have been taught. If you have not heard from your student, please call Dispatch at (707) 565-2121.

We know a situation like this can be stressful, and we thank everyone for their patience and cooperation. Windsor High School staff took quick action in locking down the school and helped ensure the safety of the students. We also appreciate the assistance of our partner agencies, whose collaboration helped move this response forward quickly.

At this time, we believe the bomb threat to be a swatting call. During the course of the investigation, we learned that other law enforcement agencies in California were dealing with a similar call today.
